Material Management Team Lead
Lead a high-performing team responsible for warehouse operations, inventory management, and demand management requirements for the N Sea SPU. Support the SPU Materials Management (MM) strategy by leveraging a network of supply partners, processes, tools and technology to provide optimum material life cycle cost. Responsible for the successful implementation of the MM common process and integration of common processes as required within the line. The role will require depth and breadth of PSCM experience including strong leadership skills coupled with the ability to drive and influence change.

This role also supports the regional PSCM Operational Procurement Manager in the overall management and performance of the Materials Management operations which includes Warehousing, Inbound Transportation, Inventory Management, and Demand Planning.

The process facilitator is part of the Norwegian and North Sea Supply Chain Management (PSCM) organisation.

The main purpose of this role is to manage all aspects of Material Management within the Norwegian organization.

The role requires active involvement with internal stakeholders, service providers and suppliers to develop and implement organization, processes, systems and tools to improve materials management and comply with the Company`s policies and requirements

The role focuses on relevant Operational Management System (OMS) standards, global common processes and shall further contribute to the Company’s priorities of strengthening safety (Safety & Operational Risk – S&OR), rebuilding trust and adding value to the business segment.

Responsibilities:
Leadership:
Communicate regularly with service provider (3PL) and internal key stakeholders to ensure alignment of objectives and to build a clear understanding of business requirements for Materials Management.

Develop and implement organizational capabilities to ensure Materials Management objectives are met. Manage team members to ensure alignment of objectives and adherence to processes, policies and requirements.

Materials Management:
Comply with the PSCM Common Processes and Materials Management strategies and plans. Improve material management performance, ensure high service level and reduce risk in supply chain. Participate in local and regional PSCM teams to improve overall PSCM performance. Identify performance gaps, set targets and manage department and resources to meet set and agreed targets.

Warehousing:
Manage all processes and activities related to operation of the Company and 3rdpart warehouses. Including incoming inspection, receipt, proper storing and handling, preservation, issuing.

Materials Planning:
Interface closely with line demand planners to implement future material demand plans in material management capabilities.

Materials Control:
Inventory management and optimization, disposals of surplus, audit/controls of inventory, systems support and ownership, maintain catalogues.

  • Responsible for assuring that the region’s Materials Management operation complies with all BP HSSE, government, and regulatory requirements, and promotes compliance with the Company`s Code of Conduct.
  • Develops and/or maintain the overall Materials Management strategy to address Safety and Operational Risks as well as supply chain risks.
  • Coach, manage and develop any direct reports and team members, including objective setting, mid-year and annual appraisals, and PDP’s.
  • Assures delivery of overall materials management operations through the use and compliance with appropriate common processes (e.g. MMcp, CMcp) and systems (e.g. Back Bone, WorkMate).
  • Promotes and implements extensive use of latest Technology as it applies to materials business (e.g. RFID, Bar-coding).
  • Establishes a balanced set of measures, including those of customer service level, to ensure that materials of the right quality and quantity are in the right place at the right time.
  • Manage the ERP item master to meet SPU and segment-wide standards in support of the Backbone MDM
  • Proactively focused on the level of inventory held in the region. Commits to inventory optimization targets and is accountable for their achievement.
  • Exhibits behaviors that demonstrate inclusiveness and integration across the wider PSCM function.
  • Leads change in management (MOC) activities to assure success of new Materials Management initiatives implementation and removes road blocks to enable delivery of the PSCM agenda.
  • Proactively communicates with key stakeholders (Operations, Wells, GPO, etc.) to ensure effective materials management support to the business.
  • Actively participates in Global MM Community of Practice meetings and shares learning's across regions and functions to the wider benefit of the Company.
  • Builds external relationships with cross industry peers including access to supply chain "Best in Class" leaders to deliver continual thought leading challenge and subsequent benefit to the Company.
  • Proactively communicate with key stakeholders to ensure effective materials management support to the business
  • Actively participate on the MM Community of Practice and coordinate with the Global MM group to explore the wider supply industry markets to identify opportunities that the Company can leverage (e.g., technology advances with bar coding and RFID)
  • Provide input to preparation of annual plans and budgets relevant to Materials Management as well as manage and monitors performance against the budget throughout financial year.

Start: 15.01.2012 End: 31.12.2013 with options for extensions

Technical Requirements:

  • BS degree SCM, Business, or Engineering related field, or equivalent
  • Formal academic background in Inventory Management fundamental concepts, Warehousing / Distribution, Transportations, or related fields, supported by sufficient Oil & Gas experience.
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant Materials Management & commercial experience in the oil and gas industry. Emphasis in inventory management, demand planning, inbound transportation, and/or warehousing are critical.
  • Experience with SAP MM and/or WorkMate or Maximo WMS or comparable ERP systems.
  • Strong skills in using Microsoft Office suite of products (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • APICS, CIPS, or other relevant professional certification a plus.

Personal Requirements

  • Broad PSCM experience including strong leadership skills coupled with the ability to drive and influence change.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the business context and possesses an intimate knowledge of business drivers, plans and activities.
  • This role requires both a strategic thinker as well as a pragmatic doer, someone who is able to work creatively, turn plans into reality, challenge and influence in a demanding, diverse & multi-cultural environment.
  • A highly flexible approach is required to manage multiple interfaces and activities; influence and work through others; respond to tight deadlines; priorities; and work behind the scenes in order to achieve complex goals.
  • Experience and firsthand knowledge of the application of risk management techniques to materials management
  • Experience in working across disciplines and cross-functional teams, preparing and managing Service Level Agreements with stakeholders.
  • Team player with well-developed influencing and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse and multi-functional teams, and multi-cultural environments.
  • Superior communication and listening skills, excellent command of English language.
  • Good presentation skills and facilitation skills.
